Norfolk churches ignite new training programme
Groups from two Norfolk churches met last month as they began a new training programme to equip participants to share the Gospel better
Ignite, a training programme equipping people in churches to share the good news of Jesus, launched in Norfolk last month at St Francis’ in Heartsease, Norwich
Two groups from Gorleston and Kings Lynn met to pray, to share and to learn about the nine-month pilot programme, which will explore aspects of discipleship, evangelism and leadership through informal education but resulting in the participants leading an evangelistic project in their respective contexts
The hope of the programme is to equip those from low-income communities to bring the good news of Jesus to others, believing that Christ's church is filled with wonderful, talented voices that are waiting to be utilised
Matthew Price, who is heading up the Gorleston team said: “This feels like a significant moment for our Diocese. We long to see lay leaders in all our low-income communities energised and equipped for mission and we’re praying that God might use Ignite to that end
“We’re grateful to the teams in the Dioceses of Blackburn and Bristol who have gone before us and shared their materials with us so we can adapt them for our context”
The team in Kings Lynn have been meeting at the Beacon, led by Rev Jon Price, with support from Rev June Love from Cornerstone Baptist Church
Jon Price said: “The launch of Ignite marked the start of something deeply significant. It was touching to see a group of people from different parts of the diocese that were willing to carry the gospel with courage, compassion and authenticity
“Our prayer is that through this course, these ordinary people will cause an extraordinary difference in our churches, and also in the very heart of the communities and estates in which they live”
