Worship Leader, All Saints Church, Belton

Tuesday  2nd September

Heavenly Father, I was sent this on Sunday afternoon; it's from an old church magazine:
"Meet me, O Christ in this stillness of morning.
Move me, O Spirit, to quiet my heart.
Mend me, O Father, from yesterday's harms.
From the discords of yesterday, resurrect my peace.
From the discouragement of yesterday, resurrect my hope.
From the weariness of yesterday, resurrect my strength.
From the doubts of yesterday, resurrect my faith.
From the wounds of yesterday, resurrect my love"

It sounds very much like one of David's Psalms, but I think it's like a modern equivalent. It lists a number of things which affect so many of us: harms, discords, discouragement, weariness, doubts and wounds. And it asks You for so many blessings to help us: Mending, peace, hope, strength, faith and love. It is right that the writer asks that these things will be resurrected as they have died in so many people

Your Word tells us: "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun." What we suffer today is what people have suffered in the past. Our advances in technology and science have helped in many ways, but our human condition remains the same, damaged by sin

I received another prayer this morning which greatly encouraged me: "Beloved! May we please God in every way, bring honour to him in all we do, may our hearts be perfect towards our Heavenly Father and His will, especially in times of testing, Beloved May His will be dominant and permanent in our heart, our words speak of His love and goodness to others, while our works do so as well! May our steps be ordered by God to the end, even today, and May we not resist where God would have us to go. May God grant these prayers. Amen!" Amen indeed!

Thank You for faithful brothers and sisters, praying today and in the past inspired by Your Spirit and for songwriters today inspired by the Psalms
Amen

Monday  1st September

Heavenly Father, sometimes we can end up going round in circles, rather like the Israelites trying to get to the Promised Land. It's not necessarily sin that causes this to happen, although often it is, but it can also be carelessness or thoughtlessness. Repeating the same words over and over again can be a problem

How often do we ask the same questions in the morning of our loved ones without really waiting for an answer. Each morning, we might say "Hello," ask, "How are you? Did you sleep well? Have you any plans for today?" I guess it is a common structure at the start of the day. Answers are probably similar most days too. It can all be a bit ritualistic, even meaningless as we go about preparing for the day without really listening. We might even say we do it 'religiously'

I wonder if we can fall into the trap of doing church religiously? Saying the same things over and over without feeling the impact of the Word in our lives. Nothing new ever happening. You tell us: "Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil."

I wonder, when was the last time we had a prophetic word, or a word of knowledge? Can we be so tightly structured that there is no room for Your Spirit to work. Can 'tightly structured' be translated as 'bound'? You tell us: "See, I AM doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I AM making a Way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland"

Do we mean it when we sing: "Holy Spirit we welcome You"? Dare we open the windows and let the breeze of the Spirit blow, sending out neatly prepared service somewhere new, into a whirlwind of praise and  worship?

Lord Jesus, open our eyes to see You, our ears to hear You, our mouths to praise You, our minds to understand You, our hearts to love You, and our lives to welcome You. You bring order out of chaos. Help us to trust You to do so
Amen

Songs for today:
Holy Spirit we welcome You

Open the eyes of my heart Lord

That's what faith must be

When I hear the praises start

Lord release my mouth
