Friday 14th November

Heavenly Father, I have so much to be thankful for. In the end it all comes back to You: "The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all things were created: things in Heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him"

I was created through Him and for Him! I was created for a purpose; for Him. I was created for a relationship with Him. When I was created He had a plan for me, for my life to be meaningful. "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." I was not created like some sort of toy, for Him to play with, to be picked up and put down whenever He so desired

Lord Jesus, it is in my relationship with You that my life has meaning. Our relationship is one of love, where each of us chooses to love the other. You showed Your love for me on the cross. I show my love for You by following Your command, by loving God and by loving others: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another"

This love for others is not easy, it is costly, but it makes life worthwhile. It is in loving others that I am known as Yours: "By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another." Thank You that I can now live life to the full by the power of Your Spirit alive in me. "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me"

No matter what today brings I know I don't face it alone. I have so much to be thankful for
Amen

Thursday 13th November

Heavenly Father, I guess my prayer today is a bit fanciful. I was thinking about what our new bodies will be like. Your Word tells us this: "Our citizenship is in Heaven. And we eagerly await a Saviour from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables Him to bring everything under His control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body"

So what will our 'glorious' body be like? We had a glimpse of Jesus heavenly body at one time during His life on earth: "After six days Jesus took with Him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light." Is that what we will be like? Or is that exclusively for Him?

I saw an episode of 'Star Trek' recently, where an alien species, 'humanoid' at first transfigured into a being of light. Perhaps something like that happens to us! We know from Your Word: "There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendour of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendour of the earthly bodies is another"

Thank You for the hints You have given us. It is enough to know that we will have a heavenly body; a body like His glorious body. Exactly what that body will be like we wait to see, but we do know it will be beyond our imagining! "Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen"

Thank You that my life has already been transformed, starting from the moment I met Jesus; and is being transformed still, even today
Amen

Wednesday 12th November

Heavenly Father, I want to give thanks to You for all the wonderful people who have supported Jane and me over the last 11 years, and particularly in these last days. Thank You for all who have prayed; all who have visited; all who have phoned, texted, WhatsApped or emailed; all who have sent letters, cards and post cards; doctors, nurses and ancillary workers at James Paget and Addenbrookes hospitals; all pharmacy staff; all carers in the last six months; all Marie Curie nurses; all district nurses; and most of all my wonderful family, and You, our Lord God and Saviour

I'm sure there are people I have missed, but You know who they are. I really don't know how people manage life and death without Jesus. Knowing, with absolute certainty, that we will meet again is an amazing comfort in these sad days. Being surrounded by people who love us and care for us is also part of Your provision. Your Church is an incredible gift

Thank You that this morning I was able to meet to pray, sharing memories and tears, and giving thanks for all that You have done for us. Lord strengthen me, my family and friends in the coming days, and all who have suffered loss of any kind. There is a peace which passes all understanding, which can only come from You, the God of peace: "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all

The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus". Thank You Lord
Amen
As some of you already know, Jane went home to Jesus at 10:10am on Monday

Tuesday 11th November

Heavenly Father, today is a day to remember. Every day is a day to remember! People may wonder, "What? What do we remember?" People today may remember those who have died in the many wars that have gone before, but particularly in World War I and II. At eleven o'clock, people may stop what they are doing in factories, offices and schools and silently remember those who gave their lives for their country and for freedom; many willingly

Many, like me will remember people they never knew; grandfathers, grandmothers, fathers, mothers, aunts and uncles. In churches and cathedrals and at the Cenotaph in London these words, by Robert Laurence Binyon, will be spoken: "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them". Many people will be wearing poppies, as a reminder to themselves and others, 'Lest we forget.'

Lord, You told the Israelites: "Then take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery." And as You led them to the promised land You told them: "And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that He might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not." And You even told them to remember You! "Remember the former things of old; for I AM God, and there is no other; I AM God, and there is none like Me"

Lord Jesus, You told Your disciples to remember You: "And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, 'This is My body given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.'" Thank You, for giving us a memory, so that we can remember these things and everyone who has gone before us. Help us to learn from everything and everyone, but help us especially to remember the love we have known and shared with others and with You. Thank You
Amen

Monday 10th November

Heavenly Father, thank You for the voice calling: "In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken"

This voice was calling not only from the wilderness; it was calling to people in the wilderness! Isaiah prophesied about this voice to the Israelites, who had been taken captive and were far from home. The voice of John the Baptist called in the wilderness, to the Israelites, who were in Israel at the time, but oppressed by the Romans, but also their hearts were far from God

At Pentecost Peter called out to the people of Israel: "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off - for all whom the Lord our God will call"

He was echoing Jesus' own words: "Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven has come near." And that same call goes out today to all who are still far off. Your Word assures us: "Now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ"

You have come to meet us, just as the father came to meet the prodigal son: "While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him"

Lord Jesus, thank You that when I was far off, in the wilderness, I heard Your voice calling, I repented and found that Your Kingdom was at hand, in fact it is within me by Your Spirit: You said, "The coming of the Kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst"

Thank You that You have gone ahead of us and that there is a place prepared for us: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I AM." Thank You that we can rest assured, there is a place for us
Amen
