Partying in Heaven at Spring Weekend
We are about seeing young peoples’ lives changed by Jesus
Registered Charity number 1118022
Thank you so much for your prayers for Spring Weekend - there was partying in heaven as approximately 12 young people responded to the invitation to accept that Jesus is who He says He is and that He died so that everyone can have a real relationship with God the good and loving Father who created us for so much more than what the world tells us we have/are. These young people indicated that they had taken this first step in having a life-changing relationship with the King of Kings. One Year 10 girl said "This weekend has been an inspiration - it has opened my mind up to how I think about God". This girl came to Theos on Tuesday with the other three young Christians we are nurturing and she said again how she couldn't believe in God before because she couldn't see Him but now she knows she has changed - even her mum noticed a change in her. She has now invited her friend to come to Theos! So please pray for her and if you would like to be a Prayer Warrior for her please get in touch
On Thursday she brought her mum to the office for coffee after school, as did another Year 10 girl, who also brought her aunty and her two toddlers! So it was pretty packed but a joy to have so many generations chatting over drinks and fruit!
As thrilled as we are to have this contact with the families we're in touch with, there are only so many hours in the day. We would love to grow the team so we have more people to invest their time into these young people and their families over the next few years. We have often found that many grant funding bodies prefer to invest in projects, rather than to fund salaries. However, the young people we are in contact with really value the consistency of the people as much as the place to go to. In fact one of the Year 9s who is a regular at the Youth Cafe, Theos and at the office after school, was very disappointed that the staff who opened up a youth club in town a few months ago have already handed over to other workers so they can start something elsewhere. To this end, Lorraine has decided to use her passion for cycling to give glory to God and to raise funds for another worker to come alongside her as she invests for the long term in the young people of Gt Yarmouth. This is what she says:
Hello everyone, I am Lorraine Lythaby, youth worker with East Norfolk Youth for Christ in Great Yarmouth. On the 1st of July 2018 I am taking part in the Maratona-dles-Dolomites in Italy. This is a 65 mile cycle race (106 km) with an altitude gain of 3130m. The gradients on the mountain climbs will be between 6.1% and 7.9%. More information here
Although I love cycling and have cycled in Italy, Tenerife and the UK, this is the greatest challenge I have set myself. I have only been riding a road bike for the last 12 months but I would really like to complete the event in under 8 hours. I have been out training in all weathers, including cycling from Lowestoft to the ENYFC office in Gt Yarmouth, which has been great when it has been dry and warm, but it is not so good when it rains! However, cycling has been a really good way to see more of God’s great beauty around the UK and other parts of the world. (You also get to know all the good coffee and cake shops in the area)
Since working with East Norfolk Youth for Christ God is growing a love in my heart for the young people in the town and I would really love to achieve this personal target whilst raising money for the events and outreach we do with those young people. I am dreading the climbs up the long hills but really looking forward to the descents, the food stops and the best apple strudel you can ever taste! I’m really excited to be among the atmosphere around the event and chatting to people from other countries, too
If you would like to sponsor me either an amount per km or a one-off for the whole distance, 100% of your money will go towards East Norfolk Youth for Christ’s work with young people in the local community of Great Yarmouth. Please pray for safety and good weather and if you can afford to give even a small amount, it will all help me to achieve my target of £500
Thank you very much
Lorraine
