Let God write your page
18th April 2018
Ruth Starkings, Network Norfolk regular columnist, encourages us to allow God to plan our days as each new sunrise arrives
With every sun comes a new day and I am grateful that, for the next few months, it will be light when I wake up. For me it seems to make getting up that little bit easier! Although, most mornings, before I am even out of bed, the day has begun because I am busy planning my way through the events that the day should bring
I am planning the day ahead as I would like it to be. Yet, if I was to pause rather than plan, then perhaps my day would start from a better place. Each new day can be seen as a clean sheet, maybe a chance to start again or maybe to add to the success of previous days. Today is the day that needs to be focused on, yesterday has gone and tomorrow is not yet here
So, do I write my own sheet? Surely, a good idea as I know what is best for me. However, what if I was brave enough to allow God to write that sheet? To trust Him completely with the day ahead. To accept God’s guidance as I tread each new step
Each morning we begin anew and for that I am thankful. In the stillness of the new day, I picture the clean sheet. Then, as the lines of the day begin to be written, I find courage to trust God as He begins to write with His gentle hand
The ink that He uses is full of love, grace and kindness, wiping out any mistakes that I make along the way. It may not be as I would have written, although at the end of the day, when the page is full, I will look back and see that it has been written in the best possible way. What better Hand is there to write for me, than the one who knows me inside and out? Than the One who loves me completely and who will never forsake me
You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside and my intricate outside, and wove them all together in my mother’s womb. I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is marvellously breath-taking. It simply amazes me to think about it! How thoroughly you know me, Lord! You even formed every bone in my body when you created me in the secret place, carefully, skilfully shaping me from nothing to something. You saw who you created me to be before I became me! Before I’d ever seen the light of day, the number of days you planned for me were already recorded in your book
Psalm 139:13-16 (The Passion Translation)
I hope that in each new day I will take courage and let the One who sees the end from the beginning write my page
