Golden Celebration for the Torch Trust on October 10
article by Dorothy Read
When Ron and Stella Heath (pictured left) welcomed a small group of blind young people from a training school into their home in Surrey over fifty years ago, they did not realise that they were laying the foundations of a Christian charity that today embraces the latest technology to achieve its aim of "Overcoming sight loss as a barrier to finding a personal faith in Christ and to living a fulfilled Christian life".
Throughout 2009 Torch Fellowship Groups around the country have been celebrating "50 years of the Torch Trust", and on Saturday October 10th at 3PM, the Norwich Torch Fellowship Group would like you to join them at their local Thanksgiving Service and Fellowship Tea to be held at Douro Place Chapel, Douro Place, Norwich NR2 4BQ
Leading the celebration will be a team from Torch House in Leicestershire who will talk about how they produce and distribute Christian books and literature in Braille, giant print and audio in many languages to over 100 countries worldwide
Torch also supports over 120 affiliated fellowship groups like the Norwich one who meet on a regular basis for fellowship and support. Sighted supporters help the group with transport, visiting, catering and literature distribution and Norwich TFG would welcome new members and supporters from the Yarmouth area
Taking part in the worship will be the Torch Choir which is made up of visually impaired and sighted members of staff who work at Torch House at Market Harborough which houses the UK headquarters and production centre
The celebration will be followed by Tea at approximately 4.30PM and an opportunity to look at literature and equipment displays. For more details and to register your interest in attending, please phone Dorothy Read on 01603 425338
