Chance to adopt a Norfolk Street Pastor
Norfolk Street Pastors are offering local Christians and churches the opportunity to Adopt a Street Pastor as either a prayer partner, to finance their uniforms, or both.
The Christian group, which is in the process of setting itself up as a charity, has recently started sending out street pastors in Norwich city centre on Saturday nights, as well as Friday nights, where they are playing a key role in offering care, concern, a listening ear and the odd chocolate bar to anyone in need.
A key part of the team is the small group of intercessors, back at the Princes Street URC base, who spend the evenings from 10pm to around 3am praying for the pastors out on the streets.
Jill Gower leads the intercessor team and said: “Our prayers are to break up the ground for the street pastors when they go out on the streets. We are all part of one team and the intercessors are in constant contact by mobile phone with the pastors. The flow of communication helps the pastors keep going and we see things change when we pray.
“We would like to offer local Christians or churches the opportunity to adopt a particular street pastor, maybe even one that attends their own church. We would ask them to be in occasional contact with the pastor and to pray for them on a regular basis, but not necessarily come and spend a whole evening with us, though they are welcome to of course.
“If people are interested and would like to come along and see how one night goes before committing to either adopting a street pastor or joining the intercessor team, this please let me know. Mostly the intercessors are on duty once a month, but even if you were able to cover once every two months that would be a great help.”
There is also the opportunity to sponsor a street pastor, as it costs around £100 to kit each of them out in the proper branded clothing.
