Sunday 27th November

Heavenly Father, thank You for today, another opportunity to go out into the wilderness and meet with people, with the message You have told us to deliver

Wherever we live there is a wilderness, not necessarily in terms of the landscape, but in terms of people and their situation, the circumstances of their lives, their relationship with You, their relationship with Jesus, and their future destination. Out there, in the wild, in the wilderness, there are so many distractions, diversions, signposts luring us to one place or another, to one thing or another

The 'next thing' will make you feel better; the 'next thing' will give you what you need; the 'next thing' is essential for your wellbeing; there is always a 'next thing' and the next and the next. Ultimately the 'next thing' is never enough and we are always left wanting more. An incredibly rich man, John D. Rockefeller, was asked, “How much money does it take to make a man happy?" His reply was, "Just one more dollar”

The message You ask us to deliver is different, it is not about the 'next thing' or ‘one more dollar’ it is about a person, One who can truly satisfy, One who truly delivers: Jesus. Gold, silver, diamonds, money will bring a certain amount of satisfaction, some happiness, but in the end we cannot buy what we need, what we long for, eternal life, life in all fullness

Only the richness of Jesus can satisfy, and see us home. It is not what we have got, it is who has got us that matters. Help me to deliver Your message today
Amen

Saturday 26th November

Heavenly Father, thank You for this: "The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace"

There are so many people who need this, including me! I need Your blessing. I need You to keep me. To keep me safe, to keep me holy, to keep me forever. I need Your face to shine upon me, to be a Light for me, to show me the Way. I need You to be gracious to me; Your grace is very much what I need

Everything comes through Your grace; I am saved by grace through faith, and faith is a gift from You. Your Word tells me, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast"

I need Your face turned toward me, so I know You see me and then I can have peace. I am in the 'in-between' time, the time between knowing Jesus by faith and then seeing Jesus face-to-face. The time between time and eternity, turbulence and peace; the time of troubles and the time when everything will be made new; the time when there is so much wrong and when everything will be made right

Thank You for every reassuring sign that You are the God of miracles; every kindness, every blessing, every moment of peace that transcends understanding. In this time between now and eternity help me to pass on Your blessings to others so they too know Your peace even in this troubled world where everything is not "fine".
Amen

Friday 25th November

Heavenly Father, thank You that I cannot add to what Jesus has done for us, for me, nor do I need to. Your Word tells us, "For by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy"

There is so much packed into these few words. One sacrifice, Jesus on the cross, has made such an impact on the world. What has His sacrifice achieved? We, who are being made holy, have been made (past tense) perfect forever. We are seen by You, our Father in Heaven, as perfect already because of what Jesus has done for us. You see the end, even now, while we are still being transformed, You already see us as perfect, and perfect forever. We are a work in progress but the end is sure

When a craftsman makes a plan, a design, he or she sees what the outcome will be, even before they set to work, before the first cut of a saw or use of a chisel or plane, the final outcome is already known. The craftsman does not begin work wondering what outcome will be; he knows the end from the beginning; even before drawing up the plan or design, he knows what he wants to achieve. A composer sets out to write a song or a symphony, two very different types of music, but the outcome is assured

Thank You Jesus that even though I am a work in progress the end result is already known, 'perfect forever’. You know the plans You have for me! "For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Perfect!
Amen

Thursday 24th November

Heavenly Father, I was able to go out for breakfast yesterday morning with my daughter and my wife. We went to a small cafe on a main road, on a corner near her house

There were quite a few men in overalls, Hi-Viz vests and hardhats coming in and out to collect orders to take back to the factories nearby. I suppose it could be thought of as a 'greasy-spoon' type cafe but in fact it was very pleasant, clean and tidy. The food was good too! (Thank You for good food!) However the thing that really caught my eye, apart from my daughter sitting next to me and my wife opposite, was a sign hanging behind the counter which said, painted in bold letters:
"Have a grateful heart - Be yourself - Dream BIG - Say 'I love you' - Believe in miracles"

I know it didn't mention You or Jesus, but I thought "What a great way to start the day" with those things in mind. I dare say some men go in every day to collect their orders and see this reminder. Help me to have a heart that is grateful and give thanks for what I have. Be me, the person You made me to be; don't be moulded, be transformed. Ask You to do great things in the world. Say "I love you" to people and to You, with a grateful heart. Trust in You to provide for all my needs, practically and miraculously

Thank You Lord for Your guidance in the most unlikely places. Lord bless the owners of the cafe, all who work there, and all who buy their food there. May they all come to know Jesus as Saviour
Amen

Wednesday 23rd November

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus. I know I say this a lot, and I sometimes think there is nothing else that I can say except "Thank You for Jesus"

When I think about what You did for us, for everyone, for me, in coming into this world and doing what You did, all I can think to say is "Thank You for Jesus". When I think about what You did for us, and I wonder why, the words come to mind, "God loves you. Remember, God loves you". You know me and You love me! And so You rescued me? Why did I need to be rescued? Was I in danger? Was I? I was! I was in ’grave danger'. The grave beckoned because of sin and death

The Bible has a proverb, "The wages of the righteous is life, but the earnings of the wicked are sin and death". Another passage echoes this, saying, "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord". The gift of God is eternal life!

Through Jesus! Is it surprising then that I say to You, "Thank You for Jesus?" Was I righteous? Somehow I doubt it; there was too much wrong for me to be right or 'righteous’. Death was the future, and it worried me. I kept hoping I would live forever, but I knew I would die

But now, although I don't look forward to death, I do look forward to eternal life. So, once again I say, wholeheartedly, "Thank You for Jesus!"

And to You, Lord Jesus, I say "Thank You!" Thank You for being willing! Thank You for praying, "Father, if You are willing, take this cup from me: yet not my will but Yours be done". The cross. Thank You Jesus
Amen

Tuesday 22nd November

Heavenly Father, the last book in the Bible is called "Revelation" and begins with the words: "The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending His Angel to His servant John, who testifies to everything he saw - that is, the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ"

It is hard for us to imagine this, and how real it was, but it was as real as anything that has happened since the beginning of time. If God is God, and I am sure He is I AM, then I am sure He can speak quite clearly through a vision, or through a burning bush, or through His Son, Jesus, on earth

I also believe He speaks to us today through worship songs, prayer, our own thoughts and through sermons in Church. I am sure there other ways too. How can we be sure that it is You speaking and not just our own imagination? There are many people who have claimed You have spoken to them and gone on to do terrible things, and perhaps there is the answer?

You are a God of love. Your Word tells us to look to Jesus as our example, and everything Jesus did was an act of love

Lord Jesus, when You spoke to John on the isle of Patmos, I am sure it was an act of love. As we read 'Revelation' help us to understand all the images and pictures You use to explain what has happened and what will happen

I know I do not see or understand perfectly, so help me to keep my eyes on Jesus, and make sure all I do is measured as an act of love. Thank You
Amen

Monday 21st November

Heavenly Father, there are so many things we can hear which we would class as "good news"

A friend who is feeling better during an illness; someone we know has found a job after a time of unemployment; a loved one has come through an operation successfully; a young person who has passed their recent exams; a young person who has been accepted at a university; a scan reveals that there is no tumour; a scan reveals that where there once a cancer, there is no more; in a desert land there is rain; in a war torn country there is peace at last

Perhaps the loveliest news to hear is that a child has been born, a son or daughter, a niece or nephew, a grandson or granddaughter, or a child to a friend. Whenever or wherever a child is born there is rejoicing and a sense of hope. A new life has dawned; a new light has entered into the world, full of potential and possibilities; made in the image of God; made in Your image!

Father, any child born into this world will face challenges. Jesus said, "In this world you will have trouble". And all of the situations and circumstances cited above can happen during a lifetime of trouble, along with the joy of good news

Thank You that we are made in Your image with the ability to create and the capacity to love

Thank You for Your unending love and patience as we so often wander away from You

Thank You for everyone who prays for a child, or a youth, or an adult!

Thank You for Jesus, our Saviour, whose Spirit is with us and prays for us too. Good News!
Amen
