Junior choristers outing to the Horstead Activity Centre

CHORISTERS OUTING 2021A27th July 2021
In Spring 2021 the junior choristers group were kindly given a small community grant by local councillor Mike Smith-Clare, and upon consulting with the young people themselves, it was decided that what was needed most after a difficult 18 months was a social outing! So I booked us a day at the Diocese of Norwich's Horstead Activity Centre, for team-building and fun in the fresh air. Though we've been having rehearsals in small 'bubbles' for some time now, the last time we had really all got together was at Christmas time 2020, when after some carefully planning we did 'socially distanced' carol singing at Marine Court and Park House care homes - but this trip to the Horstead Centre was much more active!
CHORISTERS OUTING 2021B15 of our junior choristers and 6 adult helpers set off from Yarmouth at 8.30am by coach and arrived at the Diocese of Norwich's 'Horstead Activity Centre' by half past nine, ready to start a full day of fun
CHORISTERS OUTING 2021CIn the morning, the children had two sessions in 2 groups - 'wild camp cookery' led by the Centre manager Chris, baking handmade bread twists over an open fire; and the 'Tower Experience', high rope climbing and zipwire descent, all led by the Centre's trained staff. The groups then swapped for the alternate activity and then we all gathered for a picnic lunch outdoors
In the afternoon, two new activities for the groups, alternating between archery in the walled garden and giant paddle-boarding (rafting) on the river
CHORISTERS OUTING 2021DIn the afternoon- two new activities for the groups, alternating between archery in the walled garden] The weather miraculously held (thank you Lord) staying very warm with only a little light rain in the afternoon, and all the children said they'd had a great time as we set off home. The young people were impressively brave about trying out new challenges, especially the zipwire, which was really high, and several found new skills. From the feedback I've already had - they and their families were proud of the new things their young people had challenged themselves to do - I certainly was!
