Today is Valentine’s Day. It’s the day when many people go ‘lovey dovey’ over their sweethearts. For some it’s flowers and chocolates, maybe out for a meal. For others it’s give a card only, and still others don’t bother at all (for those of you reading this and realise you forgot, hopefully there is still time to do something!)

dove leftAs youngsters, we used to send cards anonymously to certain individuals we fancied which said “Be my valentine” and hoped they would recognise who sent it! Not sure if that’s still done these days

The Bible tells us that God loves us. More than that, it says God is love, it’s His very nature. Perhaps the most quoted verse in the Bible is John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life

God’s love for us all is so great that Jesus, His Son, was prepared to come to this earth and die one of the most excruciating deaths devised my mankind so that we could have a relationship with Him now and for eternity

Dove rightI know many people say they can’t believe that a God of love would send people to hell. I agree. However, what people need to realise is that God is holy and can’t have anything unclean in His presence, and because we are all unclean because of the wrong things we have done in our lives, we are automatically unable to be with Him in heaven

But, because God doesn’t want us to be separated from Him, He sent His Son to make a way possible. You see, Jesus, when he died on that cross took all our wrongs (sins) on Himself and took the punishment that we deserved. God then raised Jesus from the dead on that first Easter Sunday so now, if you turn from your sin and believe that He took your place and died for you and you become a follower of Jesus, God will forgive you, cleanse you, and prepare a place in heaven for you

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” John 3:17
