We are about seeing young people's lives changed by Jesus

Registered Charity Number 1118022

“So they will be called oaks of righteousness
(strong and magnificent, distinguished for integrity, justice and right standing with God)” (Isaiah 61v3 AMP version)

GYHS 07-2018Thank you for all your prayers for the school. It seems to have found its rhythm and the pupils are reflecting that. One Year 11 pupil said yesterday “I love Charter. It’s an awesome school. Everyone thought it was going to be awful and horrid but it’s great”.  We thank God for the faithful servants who have gone before, praying over the decades for this community. Please continue to pray that His name will be lifted high in the school

There are many Christian teachers there; please pray that they will be bold in their witness for Him

Now that the Year 11 mocks are out of the way, things are gearing up for the Christmas season and we’ve already started having conversations about the real meaning of Christmas. One Year 11 girl asked Ali “If Jesus is here, why can’t I see Him?” Another year 11 asked “If you’re a Christian, are you allowed to have sex if you’re not married?” It was a great opportunity to talk about how following Jesus is not just a list of dos and don’ts, but a loving relationship with someone who is always on our side, never against us and who gave His life up for us. In the packed lunch hall, during the second lunch, Lorraine was sitting with two Year 7 pupils, one of whom was very upset because some girls were being unkind. Lorraine took the girls to their Head of Year who was able to resolve the situation between the girls

Please continue to pray that the head and the Leadership Team will allow The Sense to visit in March 2019

THEOS 12-2018THEOS is in the office every Wednesday and the young people attending vary from week to week. One Wednesday we had four Year 11s who had been to WEC and come to WEC+ so are familiar with sung worship, reading the Bible and talking about Jesus. However, the following week none of them came and a Year 9 lad (*Lennon) who is very tentatively “dipping his toe in” when it comes to Christianity, came and listened politely when we talked about who Jesus is but had no questions or comments about what he’s heard. Please pray that Holy Spirit will touch his heart

We have twelve young people coming to the “Open office” on Tuesdays, just to chill out and spend time with their friends. This gives us a couple of hours to get alongside the young people in a quieter and more personal environment, enabling them to share about their friendship groups, relationships and home lives. Last week two Year 11 girls who came to WEC camp, who are regulars at the cafe, WEC+ and Theos, came bounding into the office, very bubbly and excited (First girl) "Hey Ali, guess what, we have some brilliant news - today just before the exam, she (second girl) was getting stressed out and going hyper and I said, come on, calm down we need to pray. And guess what? We did pray..........."

(Second girl) ".......and everything I needed to know came back and I think I've passed!"
Isn't Holy Spirit awesome?

ETP 12-2018While this is all going on with Ali in the office, Lorraine is busy cooking, eating and praying at ETP. Partnering with Park Baptist Church gives us a brilliant opportunity to introduce the young people to a church in a safe and non-threatening manner. There’s a core of four young people – two from Charter Academy and two from Park Baptist Church. They are gelling beautifully, assisted by three of them going to WEC camp in the summer. One even felt safe enough to talk about some of the people involved in her life that she doesn’t like and who have been making decisions about her schooling. She really wanted to shout at them and have them out of her life but we had the space and time to talk about what Jesus would do. The young people really engaged with us in thinking of different ways to approach difficult situations

YOUTH CAFE 12-2018A
Youth Café
Thank God for His beautiful children: Louise, Michelle, Susan, Sue, Amilcar, Erny and Livvy who give their time so faithfully to accommodate these young people and show them Jesus. Some of the characters who come regularly need lots of monitoring  and engaging, which can be quite wearing so we really appreciate your prayers for patience, love and grace. We’d love these boys to come to know Jesus and allow Him to be their reason for living, instead of the fleshly desires they’re pursuing at the moment

WEC Plus This month we took the WEC campers to Norwich for Youth for Christ’s Encounter event which happens once a term. Four youth groups from across Norwich and Gt Yarmouth came together with around fifty young people to hear how we can all be life-changers if we set our sights on Jesus and His saving grace. Another relationship building opportunity with those from Spring Weekend events

SENSE-STANCE 12-2018
On Friday 7th December our old friends from The Sense and Stance are back in town – for one night only! They’ll be performing a gig at Park Baptist Church and we’re really excited that Identity Youth Project will be joining in with this celebration of Christmas and the story of Jesus’ birth. The young people from the café are already getting excited about it and we’re praying that they will find Jesus as the team talk about why He came to earth when “I never asked Him to!”

Friday 14th December 2018 – Tuesday 1st January 2019
Christmas Holidays
Many of the pupils at Charter Academy do not look forward to the holidays, as school is often an escape from the difficulties of home life. Please thank God for His presence with them wherever they are and pray that Holy Spirit will be evident to them over this holiday; that they will see Him with their spiritual eyes and come back in January with testimonies of how the stuff they’ve heard with us was real and life changing over the holiday. Pray for them to know Jesus and recognise Him in the tough situations

Pray that the school staff will have a rest and recharge, that those who are Christians will be boosted by their Christian communities celebrating this indescribable gift God has given to us. For those pre-Christians, please pray that somewhere in the melee, they will find Jesus, the baby who came in such power and might, love and compassion that He saved the whole of creation to be reconciled to Him

Pray that Lorraine, Louise, Michelle, Susan, Sue, Amilcar, Erny, Livvy, Nigel, Matt, Richard and Ali will take time to rest and make time with Holy Spirit, to be amazed once more and re-ignite their first love of Him ready to embrace the new year and all the trials and triumphs it will bring

Thank you for your support, as always and we thank God for all these opportunities to be His light in the communities around us

Alison, Nigel, Richard, Matt (Trustees)
