Gorleston Gal's Community News November 2018

GORLESTON GAL19th November 2018
as published by St Andrew's Church in the Gorleston Community Magazine

Where to start! So many things going on in our G Town community. Here's what I have been up to. I've set up a Facebook page so that I can add upcoming events, photos and stories of interest. While we are very much looking to serve our 'offline audience' by appearing in print, we can also help other organisations by acting as a noticeboard for fundraisers and good causes. Just post on the Gorleston Community Magazine Page on Facebook as a visitor and I will add your details to the main page

2nd Cruise Ship arrives

We had our second cruise liner the Seabourn Ovation in the outer harbour. I don't think everyone realises that the Outer Harbour is just the other side of the harbour entrance from Gorleston Pier. I was reading online comments in the Mercury and couldn't understand why people are so negative about our area
GORLESTON GAL 11-2018BYes there are areas that are run down but many people (my cousin Gary and his family for a start!) would give anything to live by the sea. He cannot believe how much free entertainment we have access to and has no problem believing that visitors from abroad are interested in seeing the Norfolk countryside and a good old fashioned seaside town. The docks in any country aren't scenic but GYBC did a good job of jazzing it up with a welcome committee and a brass band. The idea is to encourage a wider range of tourism so it's a sprat to catch a mackerel as they say
I took a wander along the pier and took the picture above of the ship towering over surrounding buildings.  There are very few places something of this size can dock so we should be proud of our facilities

Active Norfolk

Pedal Revolution were out on the promenade on 30.9.18 as part of the Active Norfolk event. I have a friend who benefits from one of their recycled bikes. The GY Bike Project " offers community workshop use, upcycled and preloved bikes from £25 and inspirational rides, coaching and antics designed to get you active, feeling great and achieving more in life!"
It's great to see businesses giving back to the community in this way.  Children were able to complete an obstacle course on bikes and try out a range of equipment as part of Active Norfolk's drive to get us all up and moving
