The mind sometimes boggles when one considers the magnitude of the Universe. Just to illustrate this, the largest known star in outer space,  Canis Majoris is so laruntitled for webge, that if the Earth was the size of a golf ball, then Canis Mojoris would be the size of Mount Everest! And this is the largest star in the known universe – I’m sure there is much more out there still to be discovered!

In “The book of the Cosmos” Clifford Goldstein presents an account of a scientist who calculated that the probability that our Universe came into existence by chance (without the Creator) is 10 229.  In comparison, the estimated number of all the protons and neutrons in the known Universe is 10 80.  Indeed so much points to the existence of the Great Designer that it is too difficult to ignore all that evidence. How can we look at the complexity, magnitude and preciseness of the Universe and think that all this is a result of an accident? It‘s like looking at let’s say Tower of London or St Paul’s Cathedral and saying ‘hmm, all this must have just evolved from dust as a result of a hefty explosion’.
The Psalmist  wrote “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Psalm 19:1, NIV.  There are many scientists who have been drawn to God after studying Astronomy, Biology and Geology. For example, an astronomer Owen Gingerich said ‘Do the heavens declare the glory of God? I think so. The universe is so full of such wonderful things that I can hardly think otherwise’.

The Bible says  “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.  Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth eaDove rightch of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength,
not one of them is missing.” Isaiah 40:26, NIV.

Indeed we serve an awesome and powerful God. But what is even more amazing is that although our ‘blue planet’ seems so small in comparison with some of the stars and planets in the universe, that if you compare the earth to some of those ‘giants’ it can hardly be seen, yet we matter to God. God created us and He knows the heart of every person that ever lived on this planet. But not only that, He loved us so much, that He forsook His glory in heaven and came down to Earth, lived among men and died a cruel death on the cross, so ‘everyone who believes in Him may not perish but have eternal life’ John 3:16. The Creator of the Universe died for me, because of my sins, the death that I deserve, so one day I can be in Heaven with Him, which is something that I don’t deserve. That’s how much we are worth to God, that’s how much He esteems us! The specks of dust in the vast Universe, yet so precious to Him. This truly is an Amazing Grace!
